ISOKO NATION | Delta State, Nigeria

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the names of six candidates contesting the newly restored Isoko North II State Constituency seat in the Delta State House of Assembly ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The candidates, drawn from six political parties, appear on INEC’s final list of candidates for the 2027 State Houses of Assembly elections, published on October 10, 2026.

The development marks another significant milestone in the restoration of the Isoko North II constituency, which had remained without separate representation in the Delta State House of Assembly since the commencement of the Fourth Republic in 1999.

Full List of the Six Candidates

According to INEC’s published list, the candidates are:

Political PartyCandidate
African Democratic Congress (ADC)Roland Obaro Unuafe

The six candidates are seeking election to represent the constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly in Asaba.

Their inclusion on the final candidate list confirms their participation in the electoral contest, subject to any subsequent lawful changes or judicial decisions. It does not mean that any candidate has already been elected.

How Isoko North II Was Restored

For several decades, Isoko North Local Government Area had only one representative in the Delta State House of Assembly, while neighbouring Isoko South retained two constituencies.

The Isoko North II seat had been dropped during the 1998 constituency delimitation exercise, leading to longstanding demands for its restoration.

Following legal proceedings and sustained advocacy, INEC formally announced the restoration of Isoko North II in August 2026, alongside Abraka and Ughelli South II constituencies in Delta State and Yagba West II in Kogi State.

The commission subsequently provided a timetable for political parties to conduct primaries in the restored constituencies.

Isoko Nation previously reported the development in its article, INEC Restores Isoko North II State Constituency.

Why the Election Matters to Isoko North

The restoration of Isoko North II creates the opportunity for Isoko North to have two representatives in the Delta State House of Assembly, bringing its number of Assembly constituencies into line with Isoko South.

When the restored seat is filled, Isoko Nation will have four State House of Assembly constituencies:

  • Isoko North I
  • Isoko North II
  • Isoko South I
  • Isoko South II

The additional seat could provide another legislative voice for issues affecting Isoko North, including electricity supply, roads, education, healthcare, security and community development.

However, the restoration does not create another federal constituency. Isoko North and Isoko South continue to share one seat in the House of Representatives.

Constituency Boundaries and Representation

Although INEC has restored Isoko North II and published its candidates, the precise allocation of electoral wards between Isoko North I and Isoko North II has not been established in the constituency information currently available to Isoko Nation.

Hon. Bernard Odior remains the sitting member representing the existing Isoko North constituency.

The restored Isoko North II seat does not yet have a sworn-in representative.

The publication of candidates should therefore not be confused with the election or inauguration of a new Assembly member.

Attention Turns to the 2027 Election

With the publication of the candidate list, attention now turns to the election, during which eligible voters will have the opportunity to choose who represents the restored constituency.

Residents are encouraged to verify their voter registration details, obtain their Permanent Voter Cards where necessary, and follow official INEC announcements concerning polling arrangements and constituency boundaries.

Isoko Nation will continue to provide factual, nonpartisan coverage of the candidates, their programmes and developments concerning the restored constituency.

The publication of the six candidates represents an important step towards the return of separate legislative representation for Isoko North II after more than two decades.
