Isoko Nation

The public record of the Isoko people — towns, clans, language, news and work — at home and in the diaspora. Not a brochure. A newspaper and a directory for one nation.

Who the Isoko are

The Isoko live in the eastern Niger Delta, in what is now Isoko North and Isoko South of Delta State. They are a confederation of clans, not a single throne. Each clan keeps its own Ovie or Odio-Ologbo. The language is Isoko. The neighbours are Urhobo, Ijaw and Ukwuani. The land produces oil. The towns still wait on roads, schools and a clean creek.

The work of this site

isoko.com.ng publishes news from the two local governments and the diaspora. It holds pages on history, kingdoms, leadership and unions. It now carries a directory so people and businesses can list themselves. Follow the desk at @IsokoNationNG.

Get listed

The directory is for Isoko people and for businesses that sit in Isoko North or Isoko South. Create a profile. Add a shop, school, church, farm, hotel, clinic or union. Listing is free. Every submission is reviewed before it appears.

Unions at home and abroad

The Isoko Development Union is the apex body. Under it sit INDU in the North, ISDU in the South, the town unions, the youth wing and the diaspora chapters. They raise halls, school fees and the argument for the nation when Abuja is not listening.

This desk is unfinished on purpose

Send a story, a correction, a photograph or a listing to info@isoko.com.ng. The nation is larger than two local governments. The record should be too. Follow @IsokoNationNG.
