Ozoro, Delta State, Nigeria — October 2025.
The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has announced the election of Ven. Dr. Benjamin E. Idume as the pioneer Bishop of the newly created Diocese of Ozoro, one of fifteen new dioceses established during the 2025 Episcopal Synod held in Abuja. His consecration is scheduled for Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the Church of Nigeria Cathedral in Abuja.

A Seasoned Clergyman and Church Administrator

Ven. Dr. Benjamin E. Idume is a respected Anglican priest widely known for his spiritual depth, administrative excellence, and commitment to youth ministry.
Before his election, he served as:

  • Director of Youths, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion)
  • Vicar, St. James Anglican Church, Asokoro, Abuja
  • Archdeacon, Asokoro Archdeaconry, Diocese of Abuja
  • Former Sub-Dean, Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Abuja

Over the past two decades, Ven. Dr. Idume has served faithfully in parishes across Nigeria — including in Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano — mentoring many young priests and nurturing a new generation of Christian leaders. His dedication and consistent service have earned him the respect of clergy and laity alike.

Election as Bishop of Ozoro Diocese

The Diocese of Ozoro is among the newly created dioceses under the Church of Nigeria’s ongoing mission to deepen evangelism, strengthen local parishes, and improve pastoral oversight.
Ozoro, located in the heart of Isoko North Local Government Area, now stands as the spiritual headquarters of the new diocese within the Province of Bendel.

Ven. Dr. Idume’s election as the first Bishop of Ozoro is being celebrated across Isoko Nation and beyond, marking a new chapter of growth for the Anglican Church in Delta State.

Faith, Leadership, and National Voice

Beyond his pastoral duties, Dr. Idume is an outspoken voice on national and moral issues.
In 2022, he urged Nigerians to “shun politics of thuggery, hatred, victimisation, and ill-feelings” — a reflection of his passion for peace, unity, and integrity in leadership.
He has also supported visionary governance and frequently challenges believers to live out their faith with boldness and compassion.

Known for his uncompromising preaching and love for truth, his messages — such as “Jesus, the True Light of Christmas” — continue to inspire Christians across the country.

Trial and Testimony

In June 2022, while on a trip through Delta State, Ven. Idume and an evangelist were kidnapped by armed men.
After about 72 hours in captivity, they were released and given medical attention.
The experience, though harrowing, further strengthened his resolve to serve God faithfully and fearlessly.

A New Dawn for Isoko Anglican Faithful

The creation of the Anglican Diocese of Ozoro is a historic blessing for the Isoko Anglican community.
The new diocese will promote evangelism, youth development, education, and social impact across Isoko land — aligning with the Church of Nigeria’s mission to “win the nation for Christ.”

As Ven. Dr. Benjamin E. Idume prepares for his consecration on November 9, 2025, Christians across Isoko Nation join in prayers and thanksgiving for this divine elevation.
