Isoko North Monarchs Isoko South MonarchsThe Traditional Rulers of Isoko Nation
The Isoko people have a rich system of traditional governance, with individual kingdoms and communities maintaining their own royal and customary leadership institutions.
Unlike a centralised kingdom, Isoko Nation does not have one monarch ruling over all Isoko communities. Traditional authority is exercised according to the customs and recognised institutions of individual kingdoms.
Traditional rulers are important custodians of community history, cultural heritage, customary practices and local institutions. They also work with councils of elders, chiefs, family heads and community organisations.
The principal traditional titles include Ovie and Odio-Ologbo. Other communities have distinct titles, including the Ozu of Igbuku Kingdom.
About This Directory
This page lists twenty-three traditional stools and communities recorded in the Isoko Nation monarchs directory.
The directory includes traditional communities beyond the shorter nineteen-entry list commonly used on the Kingdoms and Clans page.
Traditional offices may change through succession, regency, official recognition or changes in customary law. This page should therefore be updated whenever reliable new information becomes available.
