On Thursday, 16th October 2025, members of the Oleh community held a solemn remembrance in honor of victims killed during the Oleh–Ozoro boundary crisis of October 2020.
According to local sources, the remembrance was nearly marred by tension when some individuals from Ozoro allegedly arrived at the boundary armed, sparking fears of renewed conflict.
Eyewitnesses say that a group from Oleh mobilized in response, and both sides nearly clashed before the Nigerian military intervened to restore calm. In the video, a military man is seen addressing the youth. He was able to calm the youth from Oleh down.
In a video obtained by Isoko Nation News Team, street lights near the boundary are seen damaged and lying on the ground — damage alleged to have been caused by the Ozoro group.
However, these claims have not been independently verified at the time of this report.
Authorities Yet to Confirm
As of publication, no official statement has been released by the Delta State Police Command, 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, or the Isoko North and South Local Government Councils regarding the alleged incident or the military intervention.
The Isoko Development Union (IDU) has also not issued a formal comment.
Background
The Oleh–Ozoro boundary dispute remains one of the most sensitive issues in Isoko Nation.
In October 2020, a violent clash led to the tragic killing of twelve (12) Oleh farmers, an incident that deeply scarred both communities.
A judicial panel of inquiry was later set up by the Delta State Government, and a White Paper was issued in 2022, though full reconciliation remains ongoing.
Call for Calm
The Isoko Nation News Team calls on community leaders, youths, and residents of both Oleh and Ozoro to remain calm and law-abiding, especially during remembrance events.
We urge all parties to allow the authorities to investigate and to avoid sharing unverified information that could inflame tensions.
