The newly created Diocese of Ozoro of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has been formally inaugurated, marking a historic spiritual milestone for the Isoko Nation and Anglican faithful across Delta State.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, following the earlier consecration of Bishop Dr. Benjamin E. Idume as the pioneer Bishop of the diocese. Bishop Idume was consecrated on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life-Camp, Abuja, alongside fourteen other newly elected bishops.
A New Chapter for Anglicanism in Isoko Land
The successful inauguration officially brings the Diocese of Ozoro into full operation, granting it independent administrative and spiritual authority. The event drew senior clergy of the Anglican Church, traditional rulers, political leaders, church members, and guests from within and outside Isoko land.
With the inauguration completed, Bishop Dr. Benjamin E. Idume has now fully assumed his role as the spiritual head of the diocese, tasked with overseeing pastoral care, evangelism, church administration, and development initiatives within the diocese’s jurisdiction.
Vision and Mission of the Diocese
The Diocese of Ozoro is expected to focus on:
- Strengthening evangelism and discipleship
- Expansion of church planting across Isoko communities
- Youth and women empowerment programmes
- Clergy training and capacity building
- Community development and moral leadership
Bishop Idume brings to the diocese a wealth of experience, having previously served as Vicar of St. James Anglican Church, Asokoro, Abuja, Archdeacon of Asokoro Archdeaconry, and Director of Youth and Women in the Church of Nigeria.
