Isoko Ladies League International (abbreviated ILLINT) is a body of women of Isoko heritage—by birth or by marriage—united around the goal of preserving, promoting, and celebrating Isoko culture, tradition, language, and values.
Founded by Rev. Betty Adhokorie in response to concerns that modernization, urbanization, and migration were causing younger generations to drift away from their cultural roots. Her vision: bring together women across geographic boundaries to carry the heritage forward.
What ILLINT Does
Some of the major activities and roles of ILLINT include:
- Organizing cultural awareness and educational programs (like language classes, storytelling, workshops on history) to help members learn about Isoko traditions and heritage.
- Hosting traditional and cultural festivals, gatherings and events showcasing Isoko music, dance, traditional dress and other customs.
- Empowering women through leadership forums, training initiatives, and giving them opportunities to contribute to community development.
- Social support and outreach: assisting with relief (like during floods), providing materials to support education (uniforms, exercise books), helping underprivileged members of the community.
- Operating in multiple chapters both in Nigeria and abroad, enabling Isoko women in the diaspora to participate.
